Cleaning the kitchen

Cleaning your kitchen is just like cleaning any other room. Start at the top, and clean your way down. You'll get very frustrated if you sweep and mop the floor first, only to have to do it again once you've cleaned the counter off. Clean the floor last.

Start off the kitchen clean up by wiping down the upper cabinets, and removing any cobwebs that are in the ceiling corners. Clear the counter tops for wiping the grime off them. Use an all purpose spray cleaner, or vinegar diluted with water to cut through any stains and disinfect the counter. While the counter tops are cleared, reach in behind and wipe the black splash and walls with some cleaner. Give any small appliances a wipe down, and return them to their proper spot. Next, move on to the microwave, stove, and oven.

Put a bowl of water in the microwave, and zap it on high until it boils. Allow it to remain in the microwave for a few minutes, it will soften the food that is stuck to the top. Now go to work scrubbing and scraping the inside walls of the microwave.

Stoves tend to get really messy, so be prepared to be grossed out. Wipe away debris off the stove top, and use a scraper if necessary. Use some cleaner, and scrub around the burners. Consider yourself lucky if you have a flat-top stove, otherwise, lift up the ring around the burner and clean out the built up grime. Open up the oven, and spray it down with an oven cleaner. Follow the directions on the oven cleaner for the best results.

Wash all the dishes in the sink, or load them into the dishwasher. Give the sink a scrub too, wipe around the faucets and spout. Give the lower cabinets a wipe down, as well as the refrigerator. Throw out any old food, and wipe down the walls, shelves and drawers with cleaner. If you're up for it, defrost the freezer and throw away any freezer burnt food, as well as anything that has been there for longer than you can remember. Hopefully you had a chance to use up the food in the freezer before hand. A bowl of hot water placed in the freezer will speed up defrosting, but be prepared to soak up the water if you have a lot of ice built up inside.

Last but not least, sweep up the floor and throw out the dirt. Empty the trash. Wipe out the can before you put a new bag back in. Now is the time to mop the floor, and then enjoy your clean kitchen.
